What is an Alpaca Pen Sale?

Although pen sales can take on many forms, generally an alpaca pen sale is a means by which several alpaca owners and breeders bring their alpacas to a common location to be seen and sold to the public.  One of the many benefits of this approach is that parties interested in seeing, learning about and perhaps purchasing an alpaca do not have to travel to several farms to see quality animals.

The animals showcased at an alpaca pen sale are either sold by private agreements between the buyer and the seller (breeder); or, alternatively can be purchased through a silent auction program.  If the auction method is used, animals may have a “reserve” price, which is a base price to be met or exceeded before the animal will be sold.

Another potential benefit of a pen sale includes multiple farms joining together to offer animal “packages”, which allows an even greater variety of choice to a potential buyer.  Finally, the breeders showcasing animals at the pen sale will be on hand to show their animals, answer questions and to provide any other information about alpacas their farm is offering for sale.

We hope that you will join us for the Cambridge Fiber Festival and Alpaca Pen Sale!
